According to The Danish Safety Technology Authority requirements, coffee roasters must be installed on a concrete floor and cannot be installed on non-flammable materials such as wood or linoleum since doing so poses a major fire danger.

Your coffee roaster’s smoke output requires a heat-insulated chimney.

Smoke from coffee roasting process must be expelled through a thermally insulated chimney for a number of very good reasons.

If the smoke is released through ventilation pipes, there is a higher risk of fire since the smoke from the coffee roasting process can reach temperatures of up to over 1000 degrees. Additionally, it is not a good idea to aim the smoke via the window because it needs to be directed higher up to keep neighbours and onlookers quiet.

The Danish Security Technology Authority specifies that the smoke must be discharged through a heat-insulated chimney to reduce the risk of fire. There are many other rules governing the chimney’s path as well, including how many bends there should be and how any joints should be built. The major objective, although it can be a bit challenging to understand, is to reduce the danger of fire, odour, and other annoyances from the smoke.

A dry storage is required for the green beans. 

It’s amazing when a cargo of fresh green beans arrives. But where do you keep them? In fact, there are various standards for storing green coffee beans. For example, the beans must be stored in a dry warehouse.

Green beans should not be stored in basements due to insufficient ventilation. Because of the wetness, the beans may produce dangerous germs. For the same reason, green beans should not be left standing in the production area, which is rather hot from the coffee roasting process.

When you buy a coffee roaster, you must notify the Danish Security Technology Authority (on your own). It has been a legal requirement since 2018.

It is necessary to be able to demonstrate that your production flow complies with the relevant standards as part of the notification to the Danish Security Technology Authority. You must also give a risk assessment, an operation and maintenance plan, and a pressure loss calculation for your chimney in addition to the calculations.

Although reporting your coffee roasting production may appear hard and bureaucratic with all of the paperwork, it presents an excellent opportunity to ensure that you build up a safe and environmentally friendly coffee roasting process.

You should not use ventilation pipes to emit smoke from your coffee roasting process.

The smoke, on the other hand, should be discharged through a heat-insulated chimney and only through concrete or fireproof boards.

If your chimney is routed through mdf or normal plasterboard, there is a substantial risk of fire. Because the temperature of the smoke from coffee roasting, which is released through the larger coffee roasters, can reach over 1000 degrees, it is critical that smoke is discharged through a heat-insulated chimney rather than the ventilation shaft.
